GET on board for the inaugural Multicultural Express this Sunday.

The event will see the Frankston Train line transformed into an all-singing and all-dancing multicultural festival.

Different cultures will be showcased at three stations with food and entertainment at each.

Patrons can enjoy the sounds and food of Africa at Frankston, Turkey at Mentone and India at Caulfield between 11am and 3pm. There will also be roving entertainers on the trains.

Frankston Multicultural Network spokeswoman Thelma Christensen said the event would celebrate cultural diversity.

A raft of groups including the multicultural network along with Frankston and Kingston Councils, the State Government and Metro Trains have joined together for the event, which aims to tackle anti-social behaviour and racism.

Metro spokesman Chris Fletcher said patrons would get to experience the benefits of cultural diversity.

Former Frankston mayor Christine Richards, who came up with the Multicultural Express concept, said: "It should also give people a real taste of just how fantastic the communities that live on the Frankston line are."

The fun includes beats with Valanga Khoza and his band, drumming workshops, community choirs and more at Frankston.

At Mentone, patrons can enjoy music, belly dancing workshops, loads of Turkish foods and stalls.

The wonders of India will be celebrated at Caulfield from Bollywood to classic Indian dance and music; the day will be filled with curry, saris and silk.
