"Homeless in Melbourne's CBD to be given immediate housing under $9.8m State Government plan"

"Police move in on homeless camp on Flinders Street. Roads and tram tracks in the area are blocked off."

"Five people were arrested as police forcibly moved a group of homeless people from outside Melbourne's Flinders Street Station."

"Housing Minister Martin Foley said 20 or so "genuine homeless" people still outside the station would be offered accommodation and access to intensive support services for two years.
He said 15 of the group had already been placed in housing, with another four going into residential rehabilitation services."

Melbourne, don't criminalise homelessness

March 2017:

1:

"Proposed Melbourne City Council by-laws to make it easier for police to move homeless people camping in the city are "harsh", a lawyer advocating for homeless people says.

The amendment would widen the definition of camping. Under the current law, a person must not camp in a public place in a vehicle, tent, caravan or any temporary form of accommodation."

"Rough sleepers in Melbourne's CBD will be offered "guaranteed" accommodation by the Victorian government, but soup kitchens and other street services could be cut back in a tougher and more co-ordinated approach to tackling the homelessness crisis.

Minister for Housing Martin Foley has announced a $9.8-million emergency response package to fund immediate housing for the city's street homeless."
