Presbyterian Vegie Co-op (Perth)

Postby Noel Tudball » Tue Aug 22, 2017 1:15 pm

In 1992, Perth was in recession. Many families, singles and students were doing it tough in Leederville. Some young people from the local church came together with a truck and use of kitchen and church hall for free.
One day a week was given to buying boxes of fruit and vegies.
The next day for five dollars a week’s fruit and vegies were distributed to people on social security benefits.

Towards the end of the week soup or a stew was made up for by all participants of the Co-op and everyone spent the day together in conversation-games-music etc. Everyone participated in all the preparation and packing up for the day.

The co-op ran for about 18 months, for up to 30 people per week.
