Salvation Army Australia: Homelessness Petition

Postby Noel Tudball » Mon Sep 04, 2017 5:01 pm

"Australians demand a national and nonpartisan strategy to end homelessness in Australia"

Why sign this petition?
The 2011 census estimates the number of people experiencing homelessness in Australia to be 105,237.
Early indications suggest that the 2016 census will reveal that this number is on the increase.

Organisations providing homelessness services are unable to keep up with the demand and something needs to change.
Current strategies addressing homelessness across the country are not able to stem the flow and more must be done in both prevention and provision of support services.

On September 8th, 2017 Salvation Army Major, Brendan Nottle, will be walking from Melbourne to Canberra to call attention to the need to put homelessness on the political agenda.
Walking 703 kilometres over 40 days, Brendan will walk to Parliament on October 16th to ask our Government to commit to working together to address the issues around homelessness across Australia. Specifically, Brendan will be asking for the establishment of a national and nonpartisan strategy to address homelessness in Australia.

We need your signature to show the Government that Australians demand a strategic and sustainable solution to this increasing issue.
We want to achieve 105,237 signatures before October 15th, 2017 - one for every person experiencing homelessness right now.
