The draft report has been completed by FCC Officers and will be presented to Council for adoption at the meeting of 7 March 2016.
Now we just need to (somehow) get all FCC Councillors, Departments and staff to read, understand, remember and embrace what their residents are crying out for – and in some cases, have been for years.
Here is the list of priorities from the Seaford Local Community Draft Plan 2015-2019. It is not surprising to see consistent themes coming from FCC's and SCC's interaction with the community.Priorities from Seaford Local Community Draft Plan 2015-2019
- Retaining Village Life
* Advocate for improved public transport connections between Seaford and Carrum (perhaps Carrum Downs/Skye as a train every 10 minutes plus buses is pretty good to Carrum)
* Address Local planning concerns around density and design of new developments
* Strengthen the local economy and shopping experience by creating an appealing Nepean Hwy Seaford Shopping Strip that continues to nurture creative small businesses - Encouraging a Green Community
* Engage Community in caring for the plants and wildlife of Seaford wetlands, foreshore and Kananook Creek
* Promote more environmentally friendly transport options to reduce traffic congestion
* Make Seaford a plastic bag-free suburb
* Consider the provision and allocation of waste and recycling bins on the street, parks and along the beach - Creating Employment and Education for the Future
* Work with current education providers, including Monash University and Chisholm Institute to extend the reach and capacity of their peninsula campuses
* Provide opportunities for new and emerging technologies and industries to establish and prosper in Frankston
* Improve employment opportunities for young people in new and emerging fields (medicine, technology)
* Provide more training and support for home based businesses and local entrepeneurs - Caring for Our Community
* Create an inclusive community garden that promotes sustainability and community connectedness in Seaford (go Down’s Estate!)
* Promote vibrant community hubs as places for people to gather, connect and belong
* Work with young people to promote and expand programmes, including during school holidays
* Continue to use Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and advocate for increased police presence to enhance neighbourhood safety - Improving Our Facilities
* Advocate for improved lighting and safety in Seaford
* Connect community with Council staff in capital works projects including playgrounds, sports grounds and skate parks, so that community views can be heard.
