Have Your Say on what happens in Seaford!

If you missed the public Listening Posts, written submissions are still being accepted until Friday 10 July 2015.

  • What do you like about living/working/studying in Seaford?
  • What do you like least about living/working/studying in Seaford?
  • In 10 years where do you see your area and what needs to be done to get there?
The more people who mention issues, the higher their profile will become, e.g.

In February 2012, 120 people met at the Seaford Community Centre to devise the Seaford Local Plan (what could/should happen in Seaford) - and called for the formation of our Seaford Community Committee (or Village Voice).

In 2015, FCC has decided to conduct several Listening Posts rather than conduct a single meeting that might not be convenient for everyone who wants to contribute.

More information below and attached in these FCC Flyers.

Attached is the Draft Seaford Local Community Plan 2015-2019, accepted at the FCC meeting of 7 December 2015.

If you look at just the Priorities, you'll see that it does pick up many of the concerns in our Submission (in the post immediately above) that were raised by the 250 residents we surveyed over the last 3 years at the Seaford Farmers' Market and elsewhere. It also includes the concerns of the random 400 people interviewed by FCC staff over their 3 week consultation period.

We will need to review it at length to provide feedback by the due date of 12th Feb 2016. The Draft is available below and on the FCC website - http://www.frankston.vic.gov.au/Your_Council/Have_Your_Say/Draft_Seaford_Local_Community_Plan_2015-2019

Any assistance with our review or comments you may like to make would be much appreciated.

The draft report has been completed by FCC Officers and will be presented to Council for adoption at the meeting of 7 March 2016.

Now we just need to (somehow) get all FCC Councillors, Departments and staff to read, understand, remember and embrace what their residents are crying out for – and in some cases, have been for years.

Here is the list of priorities from the Seaford Local Community Draft Plan 2015-2019. It is not surprising to see consistent themes coming from FCC's and SCC's interaction with the community.

Priorities from Seaford Local Community Draft Plan 2015-2019
  1. Retaining Village Life
    * Advocate for improved public transport connections between Seaford and Carrum (perhaps Carrum Downs/Skye as a train every 10 minutes plus buses is pretty good to Carrum)
    * Address Local planning concerns around density and design of new developments
    * Strengthen the local economy and shopping experience by creating an appealing Nepean Hwy Seaford Shopping Strip that continues to nurture creative small businesses
  2. Encouraging a Green Community
    * Engage Community in caring for the plants and wildlife of Seaford wetlands, foreshore and Kananook Creek
    * Promote more environmentally friendly transport options to reduce traffic congestion
    * Make Seaford a plastic bag-free suburb
    * Consider the provision and allocation of waste and recycling bins on the street, parks and along the beach
  3. Creating Employment and Education for the Future
    * Work with current education providers, including Monash University and Chisholm Institute to extend the reach and capacity of their peninsula campuses
    * Provide opportunities for new and emerging technologies and industries to establish and prosper in Frankston
    * Improve employment opportunities for young people in new and emerging fields (medicine, technology)
    * Provide more training and support for home based businesses and local entrepeneurs
  4. Caring for Our Community
    * Create an inclusive community garden that promotes sustainability and community connectedness in Seaford (go Down’s Estate!)
    * Promote vibrant community hubs as places for people to gather, connect and belong
    * Work with young people to promote and expand programmes, including during school holidays
    * Continue to use Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles and advocate for increased police presence to enhance neighbourhood safety
  5. Improving Our Facilities
    * Advocate for improved lighting and safety in Seaford
    * Connect community with Council staff in capital works projects including playgrounds, sports grounds and skate parks, so that community views can be heard.
