April 2018: Mordialloc Bypass becomes a Freeway with (only) $75m extra
Well done to all who campaigned for this project, including: AGRA - Aspendale Gardens Residents Association, Carrum & Patterson Lakes Forum, Frankston Business Network and the Seaford Community Committee.
"After talking with the local community, many of you made it clear you want a freeway to improve east-west and north-south connections, reduce delays and provide more reliable travel-times. And we listened.
The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will include $75 million to upgrade the Labor Government’s Mordialloc Bypass to a four-lane freeway, removing a further three sets of traffic lights from the current design.
The $375 million project will cut 10-minutes off a trip between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and the Dingley Bypass. The freeway will connect the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village – creating a continuous freeway from Frankston to Clayton."

June 2018: It seems that lobbying has worked - initial plans for the project have been announced.
But not everyone is happy - traffic lights seem likely - see updates below.
It is essential that another Monash Arterial (with traffic lights and subsequent repetitive rebuilds) is NOT built!
The Mordialloc Bypass - the extension of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway - should be a freeway - and it should be built now, when it's needed. Many contend that it was needed 20 - or more - years ago.
Anyone who travels North from Frankston should be interested in the future of this project.
The Mordialloc Bypass should ease congestion on our local roads, cater to future growth and deliver on a more efficient road network for the South East.
To do that however, it is essential that it not be another Monash Arterial (with traffic lights and subsequent repetitive rebuilds).
The reserved land was set aside many years ago - the freeway needs to be built now.
You may like to support the push to build the Mordialloc Bypass (the extension of the Frankston Freeway) now, when it's needed, rather than wait until the scheduled 2046 !
The Mordialloc Bypass will ease congestion on our local roads, cater to future growth, and deliver on a more efficient road network for the South East. Everyone travelling on any of these surrounding roads knows that:
- Frankston Freeway
- Springvale Rd
- Governor Rd
- Boundary Rd
- Dingley Bypass
- Wells Rd, and possibly,
- Nepean Highway
Local community groups between Aspendale Gardens and Seaford are on board, are you?
