He said 15 of the group had already been placed in housing, with another four going into residential rehabilitation services."

Melbourne, don't criminalise homelessness

Postby Noel Tudball » Tue Mar 07, 2017 2:43 pm

March 2017:

1:

"Proposed Melbourne City Council by-laws to make it easier for police to move homeless people camping in the city are "harsh", a lawyer advocating for homeless people says.

The amendment would widen the definition of camping. Under the current law, a person must not camp in a public place in a vehicle, tent, caravan or any temporary form of accommodation."

2:

"Rough sleepers in Melbourne's CBD will be offered "guaranteed" accommodation by the Victorian government, but soup kitchens and other street services could be cut back in a tougher and more co-ordinated approach to tackling the homelessness crisis.

Minister for Housing Martin Foley has announced a $9.8-million emergency response package to fund immediate housing for the city's street homeless."
