It is with great pleasure that we learned that the Library will now be adequately funded in a joint venture with Frankston City Council.
Here is the President’s recent message:
Hi Supporters of the Seaford Junior Library (SJL),
Just to let you know the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with Frankston City Library!!!!
The key wins for the Children of Seaford include $1,000 pa for materials and $1,500 pa for books and Bev is employed for 16 hours per week at market value not $21/hr.
I would like to thank Natacha (Treasurer) and Marijke (Secretary) for all your time and commitment to saving the Library. I'm very proud that we secured the future of the Seaford Junior Library so more Parents and Grandparents can come to this valuable community service and learn more about the important role they play by reading aloud everyday and how it sets their child up for success at school and connect with others going though the same experiences.
I would also like to thank all the Councillors of Frankston City Council for recognising the valuable resource the SJL is to the local Community especially Councillor Rebekah Spelman and Councillor Glenn Aitken for their time and effort in ensuring the MOU adequately protected the essence of what is so special about the SJL. Also from Frankston City Council Gill Kay, General Manager and Kim Kearsey, Library Manager for working through all the details of the MOU.
I would also like to thank our Federal MP Bruce Billson for securing funding that has helped FCC to meet some of the cost of taking over the library and Donna Bauer our local State MP for speaking up on behalf of the SJL members to ensure that this Early Childhood Literacy Program was not lost due to budget cuts.
I would also like to thank the Seaford Community Committee for showing their support for the library on behalf of our community to Frankston Council and for the Chairman, Noel Tudball for attending the signing of the MOU meeting.
The level of support the SJL has received from the community has been overwhelming and comforting. In an era where communities are breaking down it is great to see that there is a strong sense of belonging here in Seaford. What a great place to live and bring up children.
Having the MOU signed now allows the Council to apply for grant money that will be invested in redeveloping the Seaford Community Centre...about time!!!
Onwards and upwards for Seaford.
Thanks
Melinda Shelley
