Cricketers say family violence is out of bounds
When: 5:00pm; Thursday, 21 November 2013
Where: Eric Bell Reserve, Forest Drive, Frankston North (Melway Ref: 99 J9)
The Pines Cricket, and Footy Club along with members of the Frankston North community are getting together to celebrate White Ribbon Day, a campaign which promotes respectful relationships and the prevention of violence against women and children. http://www.whiteribbon.org.au
The main game is being played from 5:00pm at Eric Bell Reserve. A team of Pines cricketers will take on the Pines Footy and Community team in a fun 20/20 cricket match, along with a free barbeque. This is the fourth year the game has taken place for the perpetual White Ribbon. Throughout the day students from local schools will also participate.
The Pines Cricket Club shows their support for violence prevention through this community activity. Research shows promoting respectful and equal relationships between males and females can reduce rates of violence. Most men in Australia do not use violence and believe violence against women and children to be unacceptable.
Family violence is a significant issue:
• On average 80 % of family violence victims reporting to the police are women 25% of children in Australia witness or live with family violence in their home.
• Family Violence costs the Victorian economy an estimated 3.4 billion dollars a year (Office of Women’s Policy 2010)
